Students who are currently registered or who have been registered in non-GSAS graduate degree programs of Columbia may offer courses from those divisions for advanced standing or transfer credit. Up to 30 points and two Residence Units may be offered in fulfillment of the requirements for the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. Up to 15 points and 1 Residence Unit may be offered in fulfillment of the M.A. degree. All courses must be graduate courses (4000 level and above) that have not been offered toward another completed degree. To use a course to satisfy one degree again in fulfillment of another degree at Columbia is known as double dipping. This is not allowed.

Students registered as postgraduate special students in the School of Continuing Education and applying to a free-standing M.A. program may be eligible to earn, subject to the approval of the faculty adviser of the M.A. program, up to one Residence Unit of advanced standing toward the M.A. for the satisfactory completion of at least 15 points of graduate courses (4000 level and above).
