Deposits by Mail

Deposits by mail are accepted, but if timing is of essence it is highly recommend that an express service such as FedEx, UPS or DHL is used, rather than federal mail service. The mailing address is:

Columbia University
Dissertation Office
107 Low Memorial Library
Mail Code 4304
535 West 116th Street
New York, NY 10027

Students are encouraged to bring in, fax or email sample pages to the Dissertation Office if they have questions or to confirm that the formatting is acceptable (this may save considerable aggravation and expense.)

Students depositing from abroad should be aware that it may be difficult to find 8½" x 11" paper with 25% or more cotton content. Some students purchase the paper and money order before they depart the U.S. For printing and delivery of the dissertation, the Dissertation Office recommends the Columbia University Printing Services: 212-854-3233.

If the 4 ½” x 7” approval card has already been signed by the dissertation sponsor and by the department chair, the two copies of the dissertation and all other deposit materials should be sent to the above address. If the Approval Card has NOT been signed, please send it to the department/program to be signed. In the meantime, send the two dissertation manuscripts and all other deposit materials to the Dissertation Office.

When mailing in the deposit materials, include a diploma mailing address as well as the spelling of the author’s name as it should appear on the diploma.

All mailed materials must be received in the Dissertation Office by 4:00 p.m. on the Friday before the Wednesday degree conferral date.
