The
program seeks talented students who have a passion for scholarly or scientific
research and demonstrate academic promise in research and/or teaching in the
sciences and selected disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.

Eligibility
- Students entering Junior or Senior year
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher
- Demonstrated
interest in and potential for doctoral study in proposed field
Consideration is given to applicants from historically
underrepresented groups that include but are not limited to:

Fellowship
Accommodations: Housing will be provided on Columbia’s
Morningside Heightscampus.
Transportation: Transportation
costs, up to $300, will be covered if necessary. Local transportation will not
be covered.
Stipend: Students will receive a stipend of $3000
to help cover living expenses, including meals.
Note:
No meal plan is provided.
Guidelines for Statement of
Purpose
Please provide a
statement of purpose that is no longer than three typed, double-spaced pages. The following are guidelines that most students find helpful in developing the statement:
a) Briefly discuss your motivation for applying to the Summer Research Program. If you decide to include autobiographical information, make sure that it is both concise and closely connected to your specific academic/research goals. (1 paragraph)
b) Describe your future education and/or career goals and explain how participation in SRP is relevant. (1 paragraph)
c) Discuss previous research or academic projects(s):
- Issue/question you examined and what makes it important
- Methodology you used
- Findings and significance
d) Discuss proposed area of research according to the guidelines listed below. Indicate prior experience with research on the specific topic, if relevant, and/or discuss how the topic and field are connected with your overall research interest

Students
may consult the participating departments page for a listing of the science
departments available. Explore research taking place in these departments via your own web search and indicate three labs in which you would like to be placed. Please explain how working in these particular laboratories relates to your research interests or experience. (Please note that we are NOT able to accept students who are preparing for the MD/PhD or students in the following subfields of psychology: clinical, counseling, developmental, school, industrial.)

placement. Program administrators use
laboratory selections as a way to help them place students in suitable labs
according to the students' interests.]
