Health Services at Columbia (HSC) is part of the University’s Student Services division on the Morningside Campus. We are comprised of more than 100 individuals: medical providers, nutritionists, disability specialists, health educators, therapists, psychiatrists, peer counselors, support staff, and administrative professionals. HSC provides integrated and accessible services and programs that support the well-being of the campus community, and the personal and academic development of students.

Led by Samuel Seward Jr., MD, Assistant Vice President, HSC is comprised of five programmatic areas:

Central administration is supervised by the Chief of Administration and is comprised of the following departments:

  • Communications, Business Office, Facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology, Insurance Programs, and Immunization Compliance.

Committees

HSC Student Advisory Board plays an important role in providing meaningful feedback that helps us refine our services and address the issues that matter to the campus community most. Undergraduate students are represented by their peers from CC, SEAS, and GS in regular monthly meetings on a variety of topics.

Insurance Renewal Committee meets annually to review the plan, make recommendations for changes in benefits, and advise the Assistant Vice President in the negotiations with the insurance vendor. The Committee is composed of clinical staff at Primary Care Medical Services and Counseling and Psychological Services; students; student affairs staff from the schools; and administrative staff at HSC.

Educational Materials Committee reviews and evaluates the printed and online materials that are distributed to students, faculty, deans, and staff to ensure its accuracy and consistency. Members from all departments of Health Services at Columbia are represented on this committee that meets regularly.

Events & Funding Committee reviews and approves all requests for funding from students organizations requesting support from Health Services at Columbia. Applications are reviewed twice a year, and support is allocated in various ways, such as financial contributions, creation of marketing materials, and attendance at events. For more information about the funding available to student groups from HSC, go to Forms.
