Membership
The Club consists of members evenly divided between undergraduate and
graduate students. The club is open to anyone who is eligible to use the Gym
(Dodge Physical fitness center) including staff, Columbia affiliates
and partners/spouses. All eligible people can join the club by paying the
membership fee of $15/semester.
Members are eligible to signup for trips and get discounts on
equipment rentals.The membership fee can be paid online with a
credit-card or check using PayPal.
Trip Signup
Trips are planned for each month and announced to the club mailing list and
web-site at the beginning of each month. People interested in going on
hikes need to be club-members and need to sign up for trips with a check or credit card using PayPal.
If for some very good reason you can't pay with PayPal, contact our trip coordinator Emily (ehg2114) and arrange with her to pay in cash.
When you sign up with PayPal, your name will be added to the hiking list. Your emailed PayPal receipt is your confirmation that your signup was successful.
People should signup by THE THURSDAY BEFORE THE TRIP. If there aren't
enough people who have signed up by Friday morning the trip
will be canceled. Payments are for a specific trip and
cannot be credited towards another trip.
Trip leaders do not have anything to do with trip signups, so please do
not contact them asking to join the trip.
Waiting Lists
If a hiking trip is full, the signup page will show that it is "WAITING LIST ONLY". If you sign up for a hike that says "WAITING LIST ONLY", we will assume that you understand that you are signing up for the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list, you must show up for the trip and if there's room (because of no-shows on the main hikers list) then you can go on the hike. If you show up for the trip and there's no room, we'll refund your trip payment.
Occasionally a trip will fill up and be oversubscribed before we have a chance to update the website to say "WAITING LIST ONLY". If this happens we will contact waiting list people by email to let them know the situation and give them the option of not being on the waiting list and having their trip payment refunded.
Fee Schedule
The signup/membership schedule is given below.
Membership
$15 - Membership for the Semester
Day Trips
$5 - Per trip fee for members (signup by Thursday before trip)
$10 - Late signup fee (for signups after Thursday or day-of)
Camping Trips
$20/day - (includes food)
Though it is discouraged, you can also come to 116th and Amsterdam
at 8 AM on the day of the trip and pay the late-signup fee on the day
if there is space on the trip. However this is discouraged as trips tend to be
full and trips can get cancelled.
To pay for the trip the day of, simply give your money to
the trip-leader.
