Biography
I was born in New Delhi, India,
and spent most, though not all, of my early years in that city. From 1999-2003, I attended Haverford
College in Pennsylvania,
and graduated with majors in History and in Economics. After graduation I worked at the Washington
based Urban Institute’s Health Policy
Center, co-authoring research papers
on Medicaid and health insurance coverage in the United
States.
Returning to History, I spent the academic year of 2005-2006
in Columbia’s East Asian Languages
and Cultures Department and followed that with an year at the Inter-University
Program in Chinese Language Studies in Beijing.
In 2007 I entered the PhD program at Columbia
in the East Asia-China track. My broad areas
of interest are the political, social, and economic history of Modern
China. My current research interests focus
on population studies and the history of science and social science. I am also interested in comparative
[Sino-Indian] and global history.
Prospective students should feel free to email me with
questions about the History program here at Columbia.
