Of the approximately 390 students who have received Ph.D.s from the department since 1993, about 80% now hold full-time academic positions at the assistant professor level or higher at a wide range of institutions. Among them are Harvard, Yale, Berkeley , University of London , NYU, Chicago , Columbia , Barnard, University of Texas , Rutgers , Cornell, SUNY, Stanford, and Georgetown . In the past few years, our students received job offers at, among other places, Rutgers University , University of California , Berkeley , Williams College , Yale University , Duke University , University of Pennsylvania , University of Houston , the US Naval Academy, Purdue University , Temple University , University of Houston, Connecticut College, and Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Another 10% of our graduates have gone into public history, including museums, libraries, and historical societies.  Some of our graduates have chosen not to remain in academia and have pursued careers in, among other things, government, foundations, journalism, business, and law.
