SUMMER 2008 Renovation Plans

Please note that all of the renovations described here were accurate as of the planning stages. Due to unforeseen circumstances, adjustments may have to have been made to the plan as the summer progressed. We cannot guarantee projects or timing.

Woodbridge

3 apartments on the 7th floor of Woodbridge are undergoing a major renovation - in the greenest possible way! Not only will these apartments be remodeled, including renovations to the kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms, but they will also serve as environmentally-friendly models for future renovation projects. Some on these energy-saving improvements include:

  • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) furniture
  • Energy Star refrigerators, gas stoves, and light fixtures
  • Low or zero Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paint and caulking
  • Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program certified cabinets
  • Shower heads that flow at 2 gallons per minute
  • Dual flush toilets
  • Sinks that flow at 1.5 gallons per minute
  • Occupancy sensor lighting
  • Recycling centers
  • Vetrazzo counters
  • Crossville EcoCycle tiles
  • Bonded Logic insulation
  • National Gyspum drywall
  • FSC certified plywood, interior doors, and oak flooring
  • Ving locks
  • Metal fire-rated entrance doors

McBain

A second elevator will be installed and in full operation by Fall Check-In, which will help to improve the traffic in McBain during peak times. This elevator will be modeled after the new elevators in Hartley and Wallach, with a sleek elevator box and new metal casings. The first elevator will also undergo improvements and minor renovations to help increase its efficiency as well.

Broadway

CUIT and Housing will be working very hard this summer to enable Broadway to be the first building to be 100% wireless throughout the residence hall. In addition, floors 10-13 will undergo renovations to the lounge spaces, including new carpeting, furniture, paint, and a flat-screen TV for each lounge. The 10-13 floor bedrooms will receive a fresh coat of paint, and the carpeting for each of the bedrooms on these floors will be replaced with new flooring.

Brownstones

A total renovation will take place this summer at the Brownstone at 531 West 113th Street. The flooring and furniture in all of the rooms will be replaced, and the kitchen and all of the bathrooms will be renovated as well. In addition, the laundry room will be moving from the basement to the main level as well.

Ruggles

The North side of Ruggles was renovated last summer, and we are now working to recreate the South side to replicate this same look and feel. Most of the room layouts will remain the same, but major improvements will be made to the kitchens, bedrooms, and common spaces on the South end of the building.

Wien

The overhead lighting in each of the bedrooms will be replaced, creating a better lighting system throughout the building.

East Campus

Each of the suites on the 10th floor will undergo full renovations, including new furniture and improved kitchen and common space areas, to replicate the improvements that were made to the 8th floor of EC last year.

Schapiro

All of the lounge spaces in Schapiro will undergo renovations, including new carpeting, furniture, paint, appliances, and a flat-screen TV for each area.
