Guests and Visitors
As a host,
you are responsible for the actions of individuals whom you invite into your
residence hall. You may decide whether to register them as a visitor or a
guest. Inappropriate behavior by a host, guest, or visitor may result in
disciplinary action, including suspension of guest and/or visitor privileges. Housing Services, Residential Programs, and/or Public Safety reserve the right to
limit the number of guests and visitors that may be signed in by one resident.
Guests
A guest is any person who does not live in the
17 residence halls, the Brownstones, or Carlton Arms as a 3/2
Engineering students and will not be accompanied by their hosts at all times.
Guests may enter and exit their hosts’ residence hall alone; however, a guest
must carry a Guest
Pass at all times.
- Guests
may only enter the building where their host lives.
- Overnight
stays for one individual are limited to five days in any consecutive 30 day
period. An overnight stay is defined as any stay within the hours of 11:00pm
and 8:00am.
- No
permanent guests are permitted.
- You
must remain on campus while hosting any guests.
- Guests
must be accommodated in their host’s room and are not allowed to sleep in floor
lounges or other public spaces without express permission from the Assistant
Dean for Community Development and Residential Programs.
- Under
no circumstances will the Hospitality Desk issue keys directly to a guest or
authorize a guest to enter a host’s room if not in the presence of the host.
Visitors
A visitor is any person who does not live in the

Engineering student, and who will be accompanied by his or her host at all
times. Visitors must sign in at the security log to enter and leave a picture
ID with the security attendant.

Access Policy Violations by Guests and Visitors
- Policy
violations requiring immediate action (removal from the residence hall and/or
revocation of guest or visitor privileges) will be referred to the building’s
Assistant/Associate Director and Dean’s Discipline process.
- If
the policy violation results in the arrest of the host and/or guest or visitor,
the guest pass or visitor privileges will be immediately revoked by Public
Safety.
- Public
Safety will maintain a list of all guests and visitors who are not permitted
access to residence halls and a list of hosts who are not permitted to sign in
guests or visitors. Decisions on the reinstatement of guest or visitor
privileges and of a host’s privilege to sign in guests or visitors will be made
for undergraduate halls by the Office of Judicial Affairs.
