Advice about your First-Year Assignment
We’ve gotten a few phone calls and emails from students requesting a change to their housing assignment. We want to assure you that a great part of your experience as a first-year student at Columbia University in the City of New York is learning to be open to new situations and experiences. Your first room, roommate, and residence hall in college will definitely be an experience that you will never forget. We want to encourage you, as new students, to keep an open mind about your housing assignment, regardless of whether you received your first choice or not. We have found in the past that once students arrive at Columbia and have had a chance to become assimilated with their new surroundings and friends, what you thought would be your preference for a housing assignment becomes lost, and pride for the hall that you share with more than 30 other first-year students becomes more important. It becomes your home.
Nevertheless, if you come to campus, give your room a try, and find that you are still very unhappy with your assignment, we will do our best to accommodate you and your change request. Please visit Room Transfer Request to learn more about the process. Sincerely, Kristina Fell Manager, Housing and Dining CC '05 |
