BrownstonesThese new residence halls were once huge New York brownstones that have been converted into student living space. The Brownstones are typically assigned to specific fraternities, sororities, and special interest communities. The Brownstones are located on “Frat Row” along 113th and 114th Streets, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
Recently renovated Brownstones, including KAT, ADP, ZBT, KDR, SC, SN, SPE, DG, IRC, DSP, 604, and 606 will be at a cost of $7,416 for the 2008-2009 academic year. PIK, PU, AEP, and SDT will be at a cost of $6,674 for the academic year. LayoutEach building is typically 5 stories high with large common areas, a basement, a full kitchen, and multiple bathrooms throughout the building. Many of the Brownstones have their own private backyard space as well. A mixture of both single and double rooms, with three or four bedrooms on each floor, makes up the structure of the Brownstones.
Room Selection NotesThe Brownstones are not included in the room selection process - each fraternity and sorority assigns members of their organizations into each of the rooms. However, non-members may be assigned into rooms if the committees are unable to fill up all of the living space with group members. What Students Say"The Brownstones are awesome. There is so much room for you to either hang out with your friends or even just to sit and study. Plus, when else in my life will I be able to live in a real New York City Brownstone?" "I loved living in the Brownstones. The kitchen and the living room are huge, much bigger than any suite in East Campus. When the weather is warm, we all sit on the steps of our house and hang out with people from the other Brownstones on the block. Overall, I had a great experience living here."
