What If?

1. What if I can't make my appointment?

Students unable to make their appointment times to select a room should have a proxy act for them on their behalf. This process must be completed during Room Selection Registration. All decisions, actions, and signed contracts by a proxy are binding on the original student. The proxy will obligate you to a non-refundable $50 fee if you decide not to accept the room they choose for you. Additional charges may be assessed should you cancel your room contract after the deadline.

If you miss your appointment time:

If you miss it, come late. For Suite Selection, you can still select a room/suite anytime after your appointment until Suite Selection ends on April 17. The same applies for General Selection; you may log in to select a room anytime after your appointment until General Selection ends. Just keep in mind that with each passing day, others are selecting rooms/suites and inventory is dwindling.

2. I forgot to register or made a mistake registering?

Please send an email to housing@columbia.edu immediately and we will do our best to help you out.

4. I missed Room Selection!

Students who miss the Room Selection deadline are not guaranteed a housing assignment. Those who miss Room Selection may complete a Housing Application by June 1 in order to be eligible for the non-guaranteed wait list.

Room assignments from the non-guaranteed wait list will be made based on seniority and in the order they are received within each class. They will then be based on the preferences indicated on the application and on the availability of space. It is important to note that assignment and arrival information will be emailed beginning on August 1.

5. I’m a sophomore and I don’t get a housing assignment during Room Selection?

Due to the demand for housing, some sophomore students may not be able to choose their housing assignments during the Room Selection period. As a result, a Sophomore Wait List will be created, and students on this list will be contacted over the summer with their housing assignments for the following year. Sophomore students who are unable to choose their rooms must fill out a Sophomore Wait List Form at their room selection appointment, indicating up to ten preferences for a housing assignment and/or a desired roommate.

6. I need more info!
