Registration

Registration is the important first step in the Room Selection Process. All current students MUST fill out an application online stating their housing intent for the following academic year.

To register for housing, please log-in to the application and click on the blue ‘Application’ tab in the upper left-hand corner. Begin filling out the application, following the instructions on each page carefully. At Step 5, ‘Category Declaration,’ you will need to select the appropriate housing category for which you are applying. Please be careful to select the correct category, whether you are applying as an individual or group. There are five options:

  1. General Selection - online process that allows students to choose individually or as a group into single rooms or any other leftover space on campus.
  2. Suite Selection - allows students to choose suites and double rooms together.
  3. Same Room/Same Suite - allows students in non-first year spaces to keep their same rooms or same suites.
  4. Special Housing - includes students who will be Resident Advisors and their riders, Students with Special Needs, Fraternities/Sororities, members of the Living Learning Center and Intercultural Resource Center, and other Special Interest Groups.
  5. Non-Columbia Housing - includes students who are studying abroad, moving off-campus, living at Barnard, etc.

The Registration Form is available online. You can register as an individual in General Selection, as a group in General Selection, as a group in Suite Selection, or confirm your Special Housing intent. If you are registering in a group, your entire group or their proxy must be present at the time of registration, as each person will be required to enter their Personal Identification Number from the same computer terminal during the same registration session. This number is your PID and can be found at SSOL, under "Academic Profile", and then by choosing "Show my name and personal data."

Please note that once your group has completed registration, you CANNOT change the group size or registration type (from General to Suite Selection or Suite to General Selection). Please consider all of your options carefully before completing your registration by March 26.

IMPORTANT! If you are registering as a group, you must elect a group leader who will register your group. The group leader will create a group name and password and will pull you into the group. Prior to being added to the group, all group members must login to begin the Registration process, select the same Category Declaration, and give the group leader their UNIs and Screen Names, which are created during Registration.

After the group is created, a 6-hour wait period will commence during which any group member may pull out. Once the wait period has ended, all group members must log back into the application and complete the remaining steps through the ‘Registration Summary’ page. After all group members have confirmed through this page, the group’s registration is complete.


IMPORTANT! Students unable to make their Suite Selection appointment time due to study abroad, class, etc., must designate a proxy on the Registration Summary page. If you have already completed the proxy form on the Housing website, you must still indicate your proxy on the Registration Summary page.

Registration is not complete until the student is assigned a room and has signed the Occupancy Agreement online. Please see Failure to Sign Your Occupancy Agreement for more information.
