Groups with Barnard StudentsAt ColumbiaBarnard students may participate in Columbia Room Selection only as a member of a group during Suite Selection. She must be present during Suite Selection. Groups containing Barnard students must have the total number of Columbia students be greater than the total number of Barnard students (51%), and all members of the group must be eligible for Room Selection. Groups with BC students may choose into suites in East Campus, Hogan, Ruggles, and 47 Claremont. BC students will not have their point values counted toward the group total. There is a cap for the number of rooms exchanged with Barnard. It is equal to the number of CC/SEAS students who sign up for Barnard housing during Barnard's Group Selection and the eligible Barnard students assigned to a sorority. If you have not yet chosen a suite, and the exchange cap is reached, your group will decrease by the number of Barnard students in it (the Barnard student(s) should have already picked a back-up room during Barnard's Open Selection process). You may still try to pick in Suite Selection. Your group’s point value will be unchanged. Your appointment time will remain the same. Barnard students are not eligible for the Senior Regroup rule regardless of their year. At BarnardA CC or SEAS student who is eligible to participate in the CU Room Selection process may register for Barnard's Room Selection in order to be "pulled-in" by a BC group to select a BC suite (CU students who register will not receive their own BC lottery numbers nor may they select into BC housing as individuals). CU students are eligible to select into Plimpton Hall, 601 W. 110th St., 600, 616, or 620 W 116th St., Cathedral Gardens, or Sulzberger Tower (females only may select into Sulzberger Tower). BC and CU students may share a room, but male and female students may not be roommates. However, male and female students may select into different rooms within a suite. CC and SEAS students are eligible for BC Room Selection only if they meet Columbia's eligibility requirements and perform the following tasks: 1. FORM A GROUP - All members of the group must be living in BC or CU undergraduate housing at the present time (or have lived in on-campus housing prior to leaving for an approved study leave). The group may only select suites that match the number of members in the group (ex. a 5-person group may select a 5-person suite, but not a 6-person suite). The group must be at least 50% BC students. Please note that CU students will not have their points count toward the calculation of a group's point average (ex. a 5-person group with 1 CU student would total the points of the BC members and divide by 4 to calculate the group's point average). 2. REGISTER FOR ROOM SELECTION - New in 2009: CU students will not register for BC Room Selection with BC students online. CU students will register for BC Room Selection on their own using an application form that will be available after March 1. The application must be submitted to BC Res Life & Housing (110 Sulzberger) by 12 noon on March 10. 3. CHECK YOUR SELECTION TIME - Barnard students will receive their lottery numbers on March 23. CU students will not receive a lottery number or an appointment time. The CU student(s) must coordinate with the group of BC students who wish to "pull-in" him/her to find out when their group will be selecting (based on the best lottery number in the group that may be used depending on the group's point average). Please note that if your group decides to reconfigure, the group must recalculate its point average (which could alter the designated selection time). 4. CHOOSE YOUR ROOM - BC Room Selection will take place in the James Room (4th Floor of Barnard Hall) on March 27, March 30, and April 2. The CU student(s) must be present (or must have designated a proxy using the BC Proxy form) at the time of selection in order to be "pulled-in" with a group to select a suite. A CU student may not select a room during BC Room Selection as an individual. A CU student who selects a room at BC will be asked to sign both a BC housing contract and a CU contract rider at a later date. Any CU student who intends to participate in Barnard Room Selection must still register for Columbia Room Selection. He/she must select "Individual – CU Living at Barnard" on the Category Declaration page. He/she cannot be a part of Columbia Suite Selection or General Selection as a group. Any CU student (or his/her proxy) who chooses a room during the Barnard Room Selection process may not later participate in Columbia's Suite Selection or General Selection. In the event he/she does not get into a Barnard suite or decides not to select a room during Barnard Room Selection, the CU student will automatically be entered into CU's General Selection as an individual only. |
