Groups with Barnard StudentsAt ColumbiaBarnard students may participate in Columbia Room Selection only as a member of a group during Suite Selection. The Barnard student must be present with her Columbia group at the online registration computer terminal to enter her ID number, and at the appointed selection time in John Jay Lounge. Groups containing Barnard students must have the total number of Columbia students be greater than the total number of Barnard students, and all members of the group must be eligible for Room Selection. Groups with BC students may choose into suites in East Campus, Hogan, Ruggles, and 47 Claremont. BC students will not have their point values counted toward the group total. However, if a group of five is invoking the EC Exclusion rule, you can have one or two BC students whose points will automatically represent the points that were not counted. Current academic-year suites containing BC students are not eligible for Same Suite rights. There is a cap for the number of rooms exchanged with Barnard. It is equal to the number of CC/SEAS students who sign up for Barnard housing during Barnard's Group Selection and the eligible Barnard students assigned to a sorority. If you have not yet chosen a suite, and the exchange cap is reached, Barnard students will drop to their General Selection, and your group will decrease by the number of Barnard students in it. Your group’s point value will be unchanged. Your appointment time will remain the same. Barnard students are not eligible for the Senior Regroup rule regardless of their year.
Barnard students in Columbia Groups must have a point value that is at least equal to the average point value of the CC/SEAS members of the group. If the lowest point value of the CC/SEAS students in the group falls between 20 and 30, the lower value of 20 will be the minimum for BC entry. If the CC/SEAS student points in the group averages between 10 and 20, the lower value of 10 will be the minimum for BC entry. However, the Barnard point values will not affect the group point value in any way. At BarnardA CC or SEAS student who is eligible to participate in the Room Selection process may enter Barnard’s Suite Selection or Senior Selection process to select a room in Plimpton, Hewitt, 601 W. 110th St., or 600, 616, and 620 W. 116th St. Columbia students will not have their points counted toward BC Group totals in Barnard's Group Selection. CC and SEAS students are eligible for Barnard Suite Selection and Senior Selection only if they meet Columbia’s eligibility requirements and perform the following tasks: 1. FORM A GROUP. All members of the group must be living in Barnard or Columbia housing at the present time. The number of members in the group must exactly equal the number of spaces in the suite you wish to live in. The group must be at least 50% Barnard students. There can be no changes in group composition once a group is formed (i.e., no withdrawals, additions, or substitutions). If any member of the group withdraws, ALL of the other members of the group must drop out of the Early Suite Selection. Columbia students will then have to register for Columbia’s General Selection. 2. SIGN UP. The entire group must go to the James Room at the same time to sign up for Barnard’s Suite Selection or Senior Selection. All group members must be present to sign the group lottery card. 3. CHECK YOUR SELECTION TIME. Barnard Early Group Lottery numbers will be posted in the lower level of Macintosh. The posting will include a designated time for each early group to select a suite. 4. CHOOSE YOUR ROOM. Check with Barnard for the appropriate dates and times. All members of your group must be present at the designated time to make the suite and room selection and to sign Barnard contracts for the specific rooms. Columbia students must also sign CU contract riders. Any Columbia student who intends to participate in Barnard Suite Selection or Senior Selection must still register for Columbia Room Selection. They must select “Individual – CU Living at Barnard” on the Category Declaration page. They cannot be a part of Columbia Suite Selection or General Selection as a group. In the event he/she does not get into a Barnard suite, the Columbia student will automatically be entered into Columbia’s General Selection as an individual. Anyone who signs a room contract during Barnard Suite Selection cannot participate in Columbia’s Suite Selection or General Selection. If a CC or SEAS student goes through the Barnard Suite Selection or Senior Selection, does not sign a room contract, and decides to not live at Barnard, he/she may participate in Columbia’s General Selection as an individual. |
