This two-week course offered annually in Hamm, Tunisia, is for members (under age 35) of human rights organizations that benefit women, youth, and students. Sessions held in Arabic.

The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists constitutes an objective and actual necessity in the Arab World, as it serves human rights activists on various levels, particularly in confronting the governments' violations directed against them.

Centre for Women's Studies in Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto
“Women, Human Rights and Peacebuilding in an Era of Globalization” includes two 3-week sessions which may be taken alone or together. Both women's human rights and peacebuilding will be addressed within the frame of globalization and feminist alternatives.

Cours de Formation de Base à l'Action en Faveur Des Droits de L'homme
This one-week course offered annually in Geneva, Switzerland, is for young people 15-25 who are active in youth groups or human rights organizations.

Consorció Universitaire
A tri-partite consortium with the Center for the Study of Human Rights, the University of São Paulo and the Pontifical University of São Paulo which runs the annual International Human Rights Colloquium. Read more about it under Institutional Collaboration.

Diplomacy Training Program
These training courses are held for four weeks every January at various locations in the Asia-Pacific region. The program offers practical and professional training for members of active NGOs from the region.

Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights Training School
A five-month course in Poland offered during the Spring and Fall semesters. Training includes lectures on the history and philosophy of human rights, institutions, and national and international legal instruments.

Human Rights Advanced International Program
A five-week course offered during the Spring and Fall semesters and designed for senior civil servants and lecturers at universities and institutes. Program held at the University of Lund in Sweden. Fall course focuses on the human rights of women.

HURIDOCS Courses in Human Rights Information Handling
HURIDOCS training programs are held in various locations and in collaboration with local or regional human rights organizations. Participants should be documentalists with human rights organizations.

Interdisciplinary Course in Human Rights
Specialized human rights courses are offered annually in different regions of the Americas. Participants study general human rights issues and focus on specific problems of the region.

International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ)

 

1. Seminar: Transitional Justice and Peace, Cape Town, South Africa, February 17-26, 2006

Luis Moreno Ocampo, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), and Alex Boraine, the founder and Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Transitional Justice, will convene a seminar on Transitional Justice and Peace.

This program, which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa (February 17 -26, 2006), is aimed at peace negotiators, UN officials, NGO leaders, engaged academics, and other professionals involved in the complexities of peace-making, high-level negotiations, and questions related to accountability for past atrocity or human rights abuse.

3. Postgraduate Fellowship Program on Human Rights and Democratization Processes, Santiago de Chile, March – July 2006

International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) together with the Centro de Derechos Humanos (CDH –
Human Rights Center) of the University of Chile’s Law School will organize a fellowship program for
Latin American professionals whose institutional affiliation or current activities demonstrate their willingness and ability to defend and promote human rights or to contribute to the construction of more just, open and peaceful democratic societies in their respective countries.  The program will deal with issues related to human rights and transitions to democracy in societies that have been subjected to repressive regimes or armed conflict situations in the recent past, as well as with issues concerning the more general challenge of building viable, sustainable democratic systems.

This specialized four-week course in Austria is offered at various times during the year for civilians interested in peacekeeping and peace-building in conflict regions.

International Human Rights Academy
The International Human Rights Academy offers a session of intensive human rights courses, organised every year in South Africa and in Europe under the auspices of the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University (Belgium), the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) at Utrecht University (The Netherlands), the Faculty of Law of University of the Western Cape (South Africa) and the International Federation of Health and Human Rights Organisations (IFHHRO).

International Human Rights Internship Program (IHRIP)
This program facilitates and supports professional-development projects for staffs of human rights organizations in countries of South and East Central Europe and the former Soviet Republics. The training occurs in different formats, but each involves an exchange of experience between countries.

International Human Rights Training Program, Canadian Human Rights Foundation
A three-week program in late June/ early July outside Montréal, Canada, consisting of interactive coursework relating to participants' field-based knowledge and experience.

International Training Centre on Human Rights and Peace Teaching
A one-week training program at the International Training Centre near Geneva, Switzerland, in mid-July. The Centre trains teachers, education administrators, education ministry officials and NGO representatives in human rights education.

International University of Peoples' Institutions for Peace (IUPIP) Program
A three-week course located in Trento, Italy, for active members of non-governmental organizations that promote civil society, peace, and human rights. Course topics change from year to year.

New Tactics in Human Rights Project's Asia Regional Training Workshop
In partnership with FORUM-ASIA, the New Tactics in Human Rights Project’s Asia Regional Training Workshop is an initiative to engage innovative human rights practitioners from the Asia region (South, South-east, and North-east) in sharing and developing ideas, practices, knowledge and skills to further the effectiveness of efforts to advance human rights.

NGO Leadership and Development Course
A twelve-week course held in September and March in Tunis. This course involves eight weeks of lectures and discussions and three weeks of NGO work.

The Rights of the Child
A one-week program held in October or November at Institut Universitaire Kur Bosch, Valais in Switzerland. The seminar is open to people who work to secure children's rights in their communities.

Teaching Program on Human Rights
This seven-week course beginning in mid-May and ending in mid-June is held annually at The Hague. Admission is open to people with a professional background, particularly those who work in NGOs in fields related to human rights.

Training for Trainers Program
This three-week program in May is open to Southern Asian human rights workers and aimed at developing critical thinking on human rights and democratic development.

TRANSCEND
TRANSCEND is a peace and development organization for conflict transformation by peaceful means. TRANSCEND offers an Advanced International Training Programme and is affiliated with TRANSCEND Peace University, an on-line university offering courses.
