Columbia University Special
The Special Card is issued to any individual who is not a student or an employee of Columbia University, but still needs access to certain campus facilities or resources. This category includes, but is not limited to, such affiliations as casual employees and consultants.
Morningside Campus
Your departmental administrator or departmental human resources representative will need to make the request through the WAFFIL database. This request will create a UNI and an email account, as well as authorize the creation of a Columbia Card. (Please note: that CUIT will not produce a second UNI if your DA is updating your records). If you are unsure who in your department has access to WAFFIL, email
us or call 212-854-5883 and we will be happy to assist you.
There is a $15 fee for Special Card issuance. If the department is paying this fee, please make sure that you have a letter from the departmental administrator or departmental human resources representative on official Columbia letterhead indicating the FAS account number to be charged.
Once this has been done, you will need to come to the ID Center in 204 Kent Hall, with the FAS payment authorization letter, cash, check, or credit card, to have your card created and issued. You will also need to bring valid picture ID (only passports and state-issued licenses will be accepted).
Medical Center
Your departmental administrator or departmental human resources representative will need to issue you a letter requesting the creation of a Columbia Card. If you are unsure who is authorized to sign this letter, contact Student Administrative Services at 212-342-4790.
