Open General Body Meeting - Fall 2009

What: IEEE hosts its first Open General Body meeting of the 2009-2010 school year. Socialize with fellow CE and EE classmates, as well as the new IEEE board. Learn about the exciting new events we have planned for the year and suggest some of your own. And of course, FREE FOOD!

Reverse Engineering Series - LCD Monitors

What: From liquid crystal to solid-state circuits, find out what makes an LCD function! Professor John Kymissis takes one apart and uses a microscope to examine the high definition world of LCD Monitor




Engineering Series - Bio-Circuits

What: Dr. Shepard will present some of the research ongoing at Columbia to exploit integrated circuits for applications in the life sciences by viewing the integrated circuit as an "active" glass slides, in which it acts not only as an immobilization substrate but as a platform for sensing and actuating biological systems.




Reverse Engineering Series -
iPod Touch and iPod Mini
When: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
             Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Where: Lerner 569
What: Professor David Vallancourt takes apart the iPod Touch and iPod Mini while explaining the intricate technology behind how these devices work, including the touch screen interface and the audio compression used to store music. Free food and drinks to be served as well.




IEEE's 125th Anniversary Celebration!
Iron Man Screening
When: 10:00pm - 1:00am
             Thursday, February 19, 2009
Where: Lerner Cinema
What: IEEE joins with Ferris Reel Film Society to present a special screening of the action-packed, critically acclaimed Iron Man to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the national IEEE organization. In addition to the FREE admission, IEEE is providing FREE food and drinks beforehand, as well as FREE giveaways including a FREE iPod Nano to be raffled off at the end of the movie.
