We have worked long and hard to ring in the new year with a
redesigned website.
Users familiar with our previous website will remember a
busy scheme. The new site introduces a simple menu bar at
the top of the screen for access to the site's areas, which
while we feel is an improvement over the old design.
However, some users may find it quirky or confusing at
first. To this end we have prepared this short guide.
The top-level menu bar provides buttons for the five main
sections:
1. Home/Institute
2. Events
3. Students
4. Faculty
5. Resources
When you first access the site, the user will see these
buttons on the top menu bar. The second menu bar directly
below will have buttons to the subsections of the "Home" or
Institute section. You should see the following:
1. About the Institute
2. Staff
3. Advisory Committees
4. Consortium
5. Financial Strategy
The default setting is to show these two menu bars.
However, when a user clicks on a button on the top menu
bar, for example, the "Students" button, she will be
greeted with a new set of buttons on the second menu bar,
which changes to reflect the subsections found under the
"Students" section:
1. Academic Programs
2. Funding Opportunities
3. Courses
4. NYU Courses
5. Alumni
Please feel free to play around with the site to become
familiar with the buttons and layout.
The Web is littered with millions of websites. We hope to
be ILAS' online home, and anyone that has been to ILAS
knows that it is a welcoming place, full of information
(something that the old site perhaps wasn't all the time).
When planning this redesign, we were also well aware that
the previous site suffered from a lack of updating. To that
end, we will strive to make this site as timely as
possible.
While we believe that this site is a much needed
improvement over our previous site, there are still kinks
that we are ironing out. As such, we appreciate any and all
feedback, which can be directed to jrm2132@columbia.edu.
Thanks!
