Spring 2005

Y Tu Mama Tambien
(Thursday, February 17)

What can be more awkward than watching an onscreen threesome with a room full of strangers? Absolutely nothing!
Come and enjoy this great movie directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Great Expectations, Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban)! It stars Maribel Verdú, Diego Luna, and Gael García Bernal (Motorcycle Diaries, The Crime of Father Amaro). It explores how the equilibrium of a deep friendship between two teenage boys is
disturbed during a road trip to the beach with a sexy older woman. But the real protagonist is México, her social inequalities and hidden beauty. Heads up: this movie is unapologetically sexual. Fresh Mexican food served!

International Students and American Politics – A Discussion
(November 11)

The race is over, and Bush is the US President again. Are you feeling triumphant? Scared out of your wits? Apathetic? On Thursday night, join us in our double themed discussion:

* As an international student, do you have a duty to take a stance on US politics? Do you even have a right to?
*What are the implications and consequences of Bush's re-election on your home country?

We're also inviting other interested parties such as the Columbia Political Union and perhaps a professor. Munch on yummy international food, hang out with your fellow
worldly mates, and express and hear other international views.

All are welcome in this friendly discussion!
WHEN: 8-9pm, Thurs Nov 11
WHERE: Lerner 502

International Halloween Party
(October 30)
On our long weekend, we took over Lerner Party Space and filled it with international dance, music, food, and bum-shaking partygoers!  We played music from as many countries as we could find, while the homemade food included recipes from Haiti, Italy, Lebanon, India, and Costa Rica.  We even gave away CDs with our own international music mix and a free outing with the club.  Next time we'll rent a microphone to make that process a little smoother... : ) We also tried to give away wine and imported beers, but we ran into administrative difficulties. Anyway, those of us who were there had fun, and we hope you join us next time! Thanks to the Iranian Club and the Haitian Students Association for co-sponsoring!
