Please join us April 11 and 12, 2003 for a conference on, Africana Studies Against Criminal Injustice: ResearchEducationAction, at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (April 11, Noon to 8:00pm), and the School for International and Public Affairs at Columbia University (10:00am to 8:00pm). All events are free and open to the public.
The conference aims to bring scholars, activists, practitioners, government, and community representatives together to hear and discuss the issues of crime and justice in the Black experience, focusing on how crime, criminal justice policy, and racialized injustices impact African-American and Black Diaspora individuals, families, and communities. We encourage your participation in this urgent discussion, and growing movement for change.
The conference is sponsored by the Africana Criminal Justice Project, an initiative of the Institute for Research in African-American Studies and Center for Contemporary Black History at Columbia University. Support has been provided by the Criminal Justice Initiative of the Open Society Institute. Co-conveners of this conference are Dr. Manning Marable and Dr. Geoff K. Ward. We hope to see you there!
