OCHA's Policy
The Off-Campus Housing Assistance (OCHA) office helps Columbia affiliates in their search for rental housing in non-Columbia-owned buildings located in the metropolitan area. OCHA maintains a Web site and regular office hours to provide advice, resources, and an online database of available housing.
OCHA offers its services free of charge. It does not operate as a real estate or rental agency. However, some of its listers may charge a fee.
OCHA does not screen either owners or tenants, and apartments are not inspected or "approved" by Columbia or the employees of OCHA. Listing of accommodations does not constitute recommendation of such facilities, nor is the accuracy of the description verified by OCHA.
Columbia assumes no responsibility in connection with the rental agreement and recommends that any agreement between the tenant and landlord be put in writing. OCHA reserves the right, but does not have the obligation, to remove or edit any listing for any reason.
Anyone is free to list available housing with OCHA. All listers must be aware that their listed apartments are offered in accordance with applicable University, city, state, and federal statutes and regulations governing equal opportunity and non-discriminatory access to housing. OCHA will not knowingly accept any listing which appears to violate these statutes and regulations. Any question regarding policies of OCHA should be directed (in writing) to the Manager, Off-Campus Housing Assistance, Columbia University, 419 West 119th Street - Lower Level, New York, New York 10027.

Web site

Advice
Our staff is available during posted office hours to provide advice on finding rental housing. Apartment hunting workshops are offered daily from July to September and by prior arrangement throughout the year. The office is equipped with computers that can be used to search OCHA's online database and is stocked with printed information relevant to your search such as lists of realtors, temporary housing, neighborhood information, transit maps and more.
Online Database
The Housing Registry database contains listings of non-Columbia-owned rooms and apartments for lease, sublet, or share; long or short term; furnished or unfurnished, throughout the New York metropolitan area. Basic information is displayed for each living space including apartment size and amenities; availability dates; location; rent and payment terms; any fees or restrictions; and contact information for seeing the space. The database may be accessed by Columbia affiliates with a UNI and password.
