Biography
Elisabeth Ladenson is Associate Professor of French and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. In addition to numerous articles and an edited special issue of GLQ A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies on “Men and Lesbianism” (GLQ, 2001), Ladenson is the author of two important books. Proust’s Lesbianism (Cornell UP, 1999), described by one reviewer as “a breakthrough for gender studies, gay and lesbian studies, queer theory, and Proust studies," was recently published in French translation as Proust lesbian (Epel, 2004) with a preface by Antoine Compagnon. Ladenson’s most recent book is Dirt for Art’s Sake: Books on trial from Madame Bovary to Lolita (Cornell UP, 2007).
