Columbia University in the City of New York hosts over 10,000 international students, interns, scholars, and accompanying international family members from over 153 countries/places of origin. For Fall 2008, the University enrolls 5,323 international students, oversees 1,362 international interns engaged in practical or academic training, and engages the participation of 2,455 international faculty, researchers, and visiting scholars and scientists. Columbia ranks third among the more than 2,000 US colleges and universities reporting international enrollments according to the most recent national data available. |

| The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is host to the largest numbers of international students - 1,399 students, over one-quarter of Columbia's international student enrollment. Large international enrollments are also found in Engineering, Business, and International Affairs. | |
| Columbia's international students choose engineering, public affairs, business, and social sciences as their most popular fields of study. Scholars participate across the University's research centers and institutes and are well represented in such fields as Medicine, Law, Business, Neurology, Biological Sciences, and Engineering. | |
| Three-quarters of international enrollment is at the graduate and professional level; almost 12% enroll at the undergraduate level; 6% enroll in the American Language Program, Columbia's world-renowned center for instruction in English as a second language; and the balance enroll as special students throughout the University's 15 schools. | |

students are female; nearly 10% are married and accompanied by spouses;
90% are on Student (F) visas; and 26% receive full or partial scholarship
or fellowship support from the University. Columbia hosts 141 student Fulbright
Scholars. |
