Head Instructor: Jason Yang

Jason Yang began training in 2000 when the Columbia club was only a few members who were lucky enough to be taught by Matt Serra (Matt Serra is the former UFC Welterweight Champion of the World.) Jason began taking classes at Renzo Gracie Academy and took over teaching the Columbia club in 2002. Jason is now a black belt and also helps teach classes at the Academy. He has an impressive tournament record, including taking 3rd in the purple belt division at the 2005 Pan American Championships, 2nd at NAGA in 2005, and 1st in the advanced no-gi division at Grappler’s Quest in 2007.

Instructor: Andrius Schmid

A student of John Danaher (the grappling coach for numerous UFC fighters, including Georges St. Pierre, Chris Weidman, and Frankie Edgar), Andrius trains at the prestigious Renzo Gracie Academy in Midtown Manhattan. He has nearly twenty years of significant martial arts experience, the last eight exclusively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He also holds 3rd-degree Black Belts in Okinawan Karate (Shorin-ryu) and Traditional Jujutsu.

Andrius has taught martial arts for over a decade and since 2009 has served as an instructor of the Columbia University BJJ Club.
