generally

The Journal only publishes material written by its members. With the exception of submissions for the Farnsworth Competition, through which JLSP solicits Notes from all Columbia Law students, unsolicited manuscripts will not be accepted, returned, or acknowledged.

farnsworth competition

JLSP considers student Notes from the entire study body (2Ls, 3Ls, and LLMs) during the annual Farnsworth Competition. The Farnsworth Competition is usually held in mid-January. Generally, one or two notes are accepted for publication in the fourth issue of the year's journal.

As JLSP is a general-interest journal, Notes on any and all subject matter, written from any point of view, will be considered. Creativity and innovation are encouraged, as well as Notes involving original empirical research. Notes should be 25-50 double-spaced pages. Submissions should include a short synopsis (no more than two paragraphs), an explanation of how the Note makes a unique contribution to legal scholarship (no more than one paragraphs), and a thorough preemption memo that distinguishes similar scholarship.

Any questions about the Farnsworth Competition should be directed to JLSP's Executive Writing and Research Editor, Keita Rose-Atkinson, kar2136‹‹at››columbia.edu.
