JSU SHABBAT ANNOUNCEMENTS for FRIDAY, April 23, 1993 1) FOR YAVNEH ONLY: Welcome to participants of the Aliyah Shabbaton. 2) Chug Aliyah is sponsoring the oneg tonight at 10pm in Wien Lounge. Sasha Levin, founder of Lights in Action, will speak on the topic "Romantic Zionism." 3) Tomorrow morning, Women's T'filah will be having morning services in the Dodge Room at 9. Tomorrow afternoon, RJC is sponsoring a Liturgy Workshop with Rabbi Oren from 2:30 till 4 in 518 Hamilton. Celebrate Earth Day! Morningside Park clean-up tomorrow. Talk to Dara Feldman. Tomorrow there will be a series of speakers in Wien Lounge which will include: at 3pm, Professor George Gruen of the Middle East Institute, speaking on the topic, "Water, the Bible, and the Peace Process." At 4pm, Rabbi Sheer will give a shiur on the topic "Is It A Mitzvah To Move To Israel?" Again, both speakers will be in Wien Lounge. Tomorrow night, the Israel VaUad kicks off the Yom HaAtzmaut celebration. There will be a speaker, community-wide havdalah service, and a Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) Commemoration at 8:30 on the Earl Hall steps. 4) Sunday morning, there will be a memorial service on behalf of Rabbi Soloveitchik at Yeshiva University. 11 am, Lamport Auditorium, 186th and Amsterdam. Sunday is Earth Day, so celebrate on College Walk all day. There will be just oodles of fun activities. Remember, its the only planet we've got. Sunday evening, Wednesday Night Learn-In is having a picnic BBQ dinner on Furnald Lawn, 5-8. Sunday evening on Low Plaza, there will be a Yom HaZikaron Commemoration at 8:15 and then a Kumzitz in honor of Yom HaAtzmaut. Yavneh will be having special Yom HaAtzmaut services Sunday night at 9:30 and Monday morning at 7:15. 5) Monday, Israel Independence Day, from noon till 2, Low Plaza will be the site of the Yom HaAtzmaut Festival. 6) Wednesday night is the last learn-in of the semester. 7) Thursday evening, we congratulate and celebrate our graduating seniors at the 1993 Senior Reception. Also Thursday night, there will be a Jewish Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Cocktail Party. 8) Help out a fellow Columbia student! Lou Terricciano (pronounced "tear-e-see-on-o") is a sight-impaired man who needs assistance with reading and some business stuff. Contact Dara Feldman. 9) Just so you know in advance, next Friday, there will be a special oneg shabbat in honor of all seniors.
