    Jewish Electronic Calendar Issue #70

Serving the Jewish Community of Columbia University in New York, NY

    Fri Sep 29 13:45:19 EDT 1995 - 5 TISHRI 5756

    Shabbat Evening (Friday) Summary

Shanah tovah y'all! Candle lighting for Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is Tuesday at 6:15 pm. Yizkor memorial services are also held on Yom Kippur (Wednesday). Light Yizkor candles on Tuesday before the Yom Kippur candles.

Sukkot yom-tov begins Sunday night and continues Monday and Tuesday (not this week, but the following week). Remember to remind your teachers if you will be missing classes, assignments or tests. Your teachers are required by University policy (and Federal law, I believe) to accomodate religious observance in a reasonable manner. However sometimes teachers ask that you hand in work early rather than granting extensions! If you need assistance with this (such as a letter from Rabbi Sheer), please come to the JSU office on the first floor of Earl Hall. There is a list of religious holidays in your school's bulletin and Jewish calendars are available at the JSU office.

There will be a PIZMON concert on Sunday October 15th (Shemini Atzeret) at JTS probably around 10 or 10:30 pm.
