    JSU SHABBAT ANNOUNCEMENTS

    We are delighted to announce that the new Jewish Student Union Executive Board will be:

    We wish them all a mazel tov! Our thanks also to Ziva Mann, Josh Weintraub, and Eric Steiglitz, the Elections Commissioners.
    On the first Friday night of next semester there will be a special Oneg in tribute to the outgoing board. Please hold the date.

    A week from Sunday, there will be a mass rally for peace and unity in Israel sponsored by a coalition of national and local organizations. Prime Minister Peres, Leah Rabin and, possibly, President Clinton are expected to address the gathering in Madison Square Garden at 10am. We recognize that this is the Sunday before finals. However, it is crucial that we all attend. We will be taking the subway as a group. Hold the date and watch for details.

    Tonight's Oneg, sponsored by the Religious Vaad, will be Columbia's form of participation in Shabbat Leumit, the National Student Shabbat. It will be in Hartley Lounge at 8:30 pm. Free refreshments, all are welcome.

    The Jewish Theater Ensemble presents "White Liars, Black Comedy," this weekend ONLY, two one-act comedies running back to back at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Shows run Saturday evening at 8pm and on Sunday afternoon at 2pm and again in the evening at 8. Tickets are available at the door.

    Gayava will be holding a pot-luck Shabbat Dinner tonight at 6 pm. Contact Jason Klein for details. Gayava's weekly meeting is this Tuesday at 8:30pm in the Jewish Office. Email gayava@columbia.edu or drop a note in the box in the Jewish office to make a c onfidential inquiry.

    Save the date: On December 7th at 8pm in John Jay there will be a benefit for the MS Society featuring: the debut performance of Key Tov a local a cappella group singing Jewish and secular music; and " A Baker's Minyan" a comedy show by Joel Chesnoff. Che ck the office for tickets.

    King College in NJ has extra tickets for this Sunday's production of "Grandma Sylvia's funeral." The $40 tickets are now $20!! If you are interested speak to Tracy Kaplowitz.

    Next Saturday a concert will be held to benefit Pizmon's trip to Israel. The concert will be in 304 Barnard Hall at 8:30pm. Admission is FREE with the purchase of a Pizmon CD at the door!

    Planning for the Jewish Collegiate Festival of the Arts is underway. If you are interested in helping with any aspect of this showcase of Jewish a cappella, theater, dance, and music by students at colleges throughout the Northeast please call Amy Greenfi eld, Galit Kahn or contact the Jewish Office. The Festival is Sunday, February 25 at JTS, so stay tuned for details.

    If you are interested in Israeli dance, come dance with Kalaniyot, the JSU's very own Israeli dance troupe. There will be meetings every Monday night form 10-11pm in Studio 2 of Barnard Hall. Call Galit Kahn for more info.

    On Monday Deember 11 there will be a pre-Chanukah party for Graduate students at the School of International and Public Affairs. Details are available in the Jewish Office.

    The Bayit, Columbia's Jewish Student Residence, is now interviewing for next semester. Contact Ben-David Seligman for more details.

    Yavneh Shabbat morning Minyan 9:15am followed by Kiddush at 11:45am.
    Rabbi Sheer will be giving a class in the Schiff Room at 11:45am on the parsha entitled "Can we learn family values from the lives of Rivka, Yitzchak and Yaakov?"

    Shabbat lunch will be at 12:30pm.
    Mincha:

    all followed by Seudah Shelishit, the third meal.

    Maariv: 5:19pm
    Shabbat ends at 5:20pm.
