    JSU SHABBAT ANNOUNCEMENTS

    February 9, 1996 - come to the Jewish Office, 105 Earl Hall, for details

    Come to tonight's Oneg, sponsored by the Yiddish Club, which will include singing and other special activities at 9pm in the Dodge room of Earl Hall.

    Come to Bikur Cholim, visiting the sick, at St. Lukes Hospital every Shabbat afternoon. Meet either in meal plan or at the Barnard Gates at 2pm. JTS students may meet at 113th & Amsterdam near the hospital entrance.

    This Shabbat the Beit Midrash is starting a weekly student given shiur. Shiur will be given this week by Jed Linsider at 4pm in the Beit Midrash. Anyone interested in giving a future shiur should speak to a Beit Midrash representative.

    There will be a meeting to plan the Intra Collegiate Cholent Festival this Sunday at 3:30pm in the Jewish Office. Contact Josh Sultanik for details.

    You have one more chance to have free pizza and get involved in UJA on campus this Tuesday at 7:30pm in 406 Hamilton. Contact Deena Aaronoff or Zahava Goldman for details.

    Come audition for this year's Yiddish Festival, "A Night at the Yiddish Theater" this Tuesday from 8-9:30pm or Sunday, February 18th from 4-5pm in John Jay lounge. No knowledge of Yiddish is necessary.

    Come hear Maury Kelman, executive director of Yavneh Olami, speak on the topic "Are Cupid's Arrows Kosher? A Jewish View of Love", this Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Dodge room of Earl Hall.

    If you are interested in writing, editing, or selling ads for Perspectives, the JSU's magazine, come to the meeting this Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Schiff room. Contact Evan Hochberg for details.

    RJC is holding a workshop on creating and leading Shabbat services. Come to Earl Hall Saturday, February 17trh at 3pm and learn more about liturgy.

    The 4th annual David Oshri Memorial Yachad Shabbaton will take place on February 23 & 24. Yachad is an organization for developmentally disabled adults. If anyone would like to help or organize, contact Rachel Feinerman.

    KOACH will be sponsoring their 1st Friday night dinner of the semester on Feb. 23rd. Sign up in the Jewish Office. The cost is $8.

    Save the date for the most exciting event of the year: The Jewish Collegiate Festival fot the Performing Arts, Feb. 25th. Contact Galit Kahn or Amy Greenfield for more info.

    Anyone interested in either being a host or being hosted for a Shabbat meal should contact Jon Jacobs or the Jewish Office.

    The Sefardic Culture Club is hosting a movie and Egyptian cuisine night on Sunday Feb. 18th int he EC lounge at 7pm.

    Anyone interested in playing on a JSU intramural Basketball or Volleyball team, contact Jon Jacobs or Barak Zahavi.

    There are weekly Gayava meetings at 8:30 PM on Tuesdays in the Jewish Office. Newcomers are always welcome; refreshments are always served and great discussion takes place. Contact Jason Klein through the Jewish office or e-mail gayava@columbia.edu for mo re info.

    The Jewish Office now has copies of Rav Lichtenstein's and Rav Amital's lectures in reaction to the Rabin assassination. Stop by to read them or borrow them overnight.

    There are various essay competitions which are posted outside the Jewish Office on different Jewish themes. Prizes up to $2,500 are available. Also, various jobs are posted. Come check them out.
