    Shabbat Announcements 9/19/97

    Tonight's Oneg/Social Gathering will be in 810 East Campus at 10:30 PM. Come enjoy a buffet dessert. If you're interested in being on the oneg committee, contact Hila Segev.

    Come to Bikur Cholim, visiting the sick, at St. Luke's Hospital. Meet at 2 PM at Hewitt Dining room or 2:15 PM at 113th & Amsterdam.

    Rabbi Sheer will be giving two classes on Shabbat - a chumash class at 11:40 AM & a special class on the book of Jonah at 5 PM in the Dodge Room of Earl Hall.

    The Eco-Zionism group, which deals with Judaism, nature & Israel, is having it's first ever meeting Monday Monday 9/22 at 8PM in 413 Hamilton. Come & meet Al Sharpton. For more info, call Avery Samet or Seth Shames.

    Hey first years, want to get the "scoop" - & eat ice cream too? Come to Shapiro Lounge Wednesday, 9/24 at 7:30 PM meet upperclassmen & ask questions. For more info see Chani or Ilana.

    Giving a quarter is nice, giving an hour is real! Spend an hour Sunday 9/28 delivering Rosh Hashana packages to the elderly with Dorot or painting a synagogue at Chain Reaction. For more info, see Stephanie Schneider or Andy Halpert.

    Beit Midrash & Jewish Studies classes will begin this week. Rabbi Charles Sheer will be giving a Talmud class on Kiddusin, Mondays 4:45-6pm & a Parshat Hasavuah class on Tuesdays 12:15-1:30pm. Rabbi Jennie Rosen will be teaching an Introduction to Judaism class on Tuesdays 5-6:15pm & a Prayerbook Hebrew class on Mondays 4:15-5:30pm. Check them & the other offerings in flyers & our Spectator ad. Registration is in the Jewish Office.

    If you're interested in working for the Hartley Kosher Deli, leave a message for Chaya Wolman in the Jewish Office or on the Deli's voicemail.

    There are job opportunities posted outside the Jewish Office.

    The Reform community will hold Rosh Hashanah services on campus. We have courtesy tickets for local synagogues for all movements, and students are welcome to attend services at JTS. Come to the Jewish Office for more info.

    Dining Services will have Rosh Hashanah meals. Sign up is Wed. 9/24 - Fri. 9/26. Also, a few students will be having an informal R"H meal in their residence hall suite. If you're interested in participating, come to the Jewish Office by next Friday.< P>

    On Yom Kippur, a special learner's service will be sponsored by Yavneh, which will take place in Earl Hall. If you are interested, contact Shira or Daniel Reifman.

    The Jewish Office will be selling Lulavim & Etrogim. Orders must be in by October 1st. Pick up will be on Tuesday October 14th.

    Mezuzot are on sale in the Jewish Office for $28.

    Jewish calendars are available in the Jewish Office. For the first time ever, the JSU has its own pocket calendar/appointment books with the name of the JSU on the cover. Rush to the Jewish Office with $4 to purchase this collectors item. Supplies are lim ited. Also, come to the Jewish Office and pick up your copy of the Shabbat Guide containing service times for all religious communities.

    Join Wednesday Night Learning every Wednesday at 8:30 PM in Earl Hall. Come learn anything that interests you about Judaism. Contact Aliza Hakimian or Natalie Stein to receive a partner.

    Learn Israeli dancing every Monday evening from 7:30-11:30 PM.
