Old Broadway Synagogue

The Old Broadway Synagogue is a small, traditional Orthodox shul located a few blocks north of us. Most of the people who attend are either students or faculty of Columbia. They are always in need of people to help make a minyan, but they are especially needy when the students are away on vacation and when the rabbi, Rabbi Kret, is unable to run around Columbia soliciting students for his minyan as usual.

We encourage anyone who is able to come and help make a minyan this Shabbat (men in particular, since it is an Orthodox synagogue and requires a minimum of ten men for the service). It is a great mitzvah to enable Jews to pray who otherwise could not (for lack of a minyan). It is especially important because this is an old, community shul which has been here for many years. It is also one of only two shuls in Harlem, I believe.

The shul is located on Old Broadway, a short street running from 125 St to 126 St. It is exactly one block east of and parallel to Broadway. The neighborhood is relatively safe, but if you feel uncomfortable walking in Harlem, why not bring along some friends?
