After an extensive ‘walkabout’ of all eateries/coffee bars on campus, this is the current situation (my thanks to my guide for this expedition: Christine Torio, assistant director of Columbia H & D services): GENERAL GUIDELINE: When in doubt, always check with the location manager if the product is kosher. Many places offer ‘Voila’ baked items which are Kosher (either packaged or even loosely displayed in some cases). Many of the muffins however are made in John Jay and are NOT kosher.

John Jay

The puddings (chocolate, Banana, Lemon-parve-, vanilla, rice), apple sauce, and sliced pears are all kosher.
The chocolate syrup, butterscotch topping, sliced strawberry topping, crushed pineapple
[Coming soon: Cakes and cookies are often kosher. I will double check the how often they change inventory and take measures to make sure people know which and when they are in fact kosher. I also think the cookie crumble toppings are hydrox]

Café 212 (Lerner)

Hartley Kosher deli sandwiches available.
Kosher snacks available (packaged with hechsher).
Bagels are being currently investigated (Just Bagels?)

Ferris Booth (Lerner)

‘Viola’croissants are available (check with manager).
Muffins are not kosher.
Bagels being checked.
YUMMY SANDWICHES/WRAPS ARE BEING OFFERED FROM NEXT WEEK

Butler Coffee Shop

Very little to offer in Kosher food.
Bagels being investigated.
Croissant and Danish are not Kosher (switching to Viola baked goods in the near future - TBA)
