Statement
The Student Labor Action Project at
Columbia Law School is an association of students dedicated to supporting
workers and unions at Columbia University and around the country. Our focus
is on educating the campus, building support for workers, providing legal
research and resources, and helping to organize workers' campaigns for
fairness. We are part of the national coalition of student-labor
organizations affiliated with Jobs With Justice.

FARMWORKER FAIR LABOR
PRACTICES ACT
|

|
A bill to grant collective bargaining
rights, workers' compensation and unemployment benefits to farmworkers.
This legislation is long overdue. Farmworkers are categorically excluded
from the laws that protect most workers in New York State, including the
right to organize and bargain collectively. Last year, the State Assembly
passed the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act to remedy this injustice.
The State Senate is poised to do the same before the end of the 2006
Legislative Session. Join us in supporting this crucial piece of
legislation.
