Students
network with attorneys from major law firms at the Symposium reception |
The Annual Careers
in International Law Symposium has been held each spring since 1995. The
Symposium provides an opportunity for all Columbia Law students to learn from
practitioners about careers in International Law. Practitioners in public
international law and attorneys from major international law firms are
invited to share their experience and to offer their advice on career
planning in multiple career panels organized either geographically or by
practice area. Students are also offered opportunities to ask questions
and to interact with speakers informally. The Career
Symposium offers first year law students an important introduction to the
variety of work opportunities available in the field of international law.
For first and upperclass students, the panels also provide a chance to meet
individuals who can offer insight and contacts when it comes time for the
firm interview process and the public interest job search. Last year’s
Symposium was held on January 24, 2006. To view the Symposium Program, click here. This
year's panel included lawyers from sixteen major international law firms. The
attorneys participated in four different panels, covering the topics of
international litigation and arbitration, international corporate and
transactional law, the experience of working abroad, and opportunities for
LLM students in international law. For further
information regarding the Symposium, please contact Jonathon Pico at jjp2131@columbia.edu. CSIL
also hosts an annual panel in the spring focusing on differentiating
international law firms. Last year’s panel, Choosing
an International Law Firm, was held
on Monday, April 3, 2006. The
panel was organized by the CSIL 1L Reps and aimed to help students prepare
for EIP and learn about: Ø
Differentiating
international practices Ø
Which
global trends to consider in selecting a firm Ø
Finding
the best match for individual interests and skills Panel
participants included attorneys from Allen & Overy, Curtis
Mallet-Prevost, Shearman & Sterling, and Simpson
Thacher. Click here to find out more about last year’s
panelists. Keep checking the website for updates on this year's upcoming Spring Career Symposium events! |
