Mission Statement

IMPACT is a network of law students organized to ensure the integrity of the voting process.  IMPACT is engaged in voter protection efforts in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Washington, Maine, and Nevada.

Our Strategy

IMPACT includes students from dozens of law schools and has begun the oversight of chapter development across the nation. As part of our effort to create a broad coalition of students, IMPACT utilizes existing national student networks, including the Black Law Students Association and the American Constitution Society. Individuals, small groups of students, and organized chapters make up the foundation of IMPACT.

Members can also choose their level of involvement, from researching critical legal questions over the course of the summer, to staffing a polling site on Election Day. All members are invited to join the national listserv, by sending a blank email to IMPACT2004-subscribe@yahoogroups.com, and to participate in current voting projects and outreach activities.

At its core, IMPACT provides its volunteers with ongoing support, resources, and funding. Volunteers will have access to legal materials and be provided guidance on community outreach work and state-specific voting problems. Finally, IMPACT will offer training, provide materials, and arrange transportation for volunteer poll monitors all over the country.

Our Partners

IMPACT works in conjunction with American Families United, a non-partisan organization dedicated to enhancing national voter protection efforts through research, education, and litigation. IMPACT is also a member organization of Voices of the Electorate Election Protection/Know Your Rights, a national coalition of over eighty organizations dedicated to providing important legal research and trained poll monitors on Election Day. As a part of these nonpartisan coalitions, IMPACT combines traditional grassroots organizing with effective legal skills to guarantee that votes cast on Election Day result in votes counted.
