Informal Meetings & Receptions
An important objective of the Lehman Center is to provide a gathering space for small group discussions with leaders in the academic or business communities. (At the moment, four different classes are using the seminar room in the Lehman Suite, but they are not particularly related to the mission of the Center. One is in European history, another is in microeconomics, another in magazine publishing and international relations, and another in oral history. Moreover, at times other than the meetings of those courses, the Lehman Suite is essentially closed. My suggestion is that we open the Center on a more regular basis and that the students and classes served essentially be in American history and politics.
Among other events, the Lehman Center would aspire to sponsor monthly gatherings of the Graduate History Association, the Twentieth Century American Politics and Society Workshop, and the University Seminars in American Civilization, Colonial History, and the City. A dissertation study group might convene in the space.
