Event Management Policies

The University Event Management staff in Lerner Hall oversees and coordinates event management policies on the Morningside campus. In addition, UEM is responsible for scheduling all space within Lerner Hall and all outdoor space on the Morningside campus. The UEM staff conducts periodic workshops on event management policies and on University alcohol policies and procedures. To participate in a training, please call the University Event Management office at 212-854-5800 or email lernerhall@columbia.edu.

Venue Managers

Each campus location where events are held falls under the responsibility of a venue manager. Venue managers oversee all events in the location they manage. Some examples of locations managed in this way are Lerner Hall, Faculty House, Miller Theatre, Earl Hall, St. Paul’s Chapel, Kellogg Center, Low Library, and Philosophy Lounge. Venue managers determine and/or oversee the policies and eligibility requirements for use of their spaces.

Personal Belongings

Whereever your event is being held, please be aware of the whereabouts of personal property at all times and do not leave belongings unattended even for a brief period. Items found left behind in Lerner Hall are turned in to the Office of Public Safety at the end of every day.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in any indoor area on University grounds that is open to the public. Under the City Smoke Free Air Act of 1995, the University has an obligation to inform persons smoking in a restricted area that they are in violation of state law and University policy. Certain employees have been designated as being responsible for informing persons of these violations.
