• 1) Uploading Word for Windows documents to cunix (SAVE AS / TYPE / MS-DOS TEXT WITH LINE BREAKS)
  Successfully uploading documents to cunix is a function both of the formatting option chosen (MS-DOS Test with Line Breaks works best in our experience) AS WELL AS the font and pitch in which the document is created.

  To our knowledge, only the use of Courier 10 or Times New Roman 10 ensure well-formatted uploads.

  These fonts limit line length to 80 characters, which is needed to fit into the cunix vt-100 screen-width limitation.

  If you do find yourself needing to use other type fonts, such documents may be able to be uploaded with their overall format retained IF the number of characters per line is always less than 80. (SAVE AS / TYPE / MS-DOS TEXT WITH LINE BREAKS)

• 2) File Management in Word for Windows (FILE / FIND FILE / COMMANDS)
  In order to delete & copy files from within Word for Windows, you must use the FIND FILE option on the FILE pull down menu. This feature not only allows searching and browsing files, but includes the Delete & Copy functions under the COMMMANDS button.

• 3) Displaying spaces, carriage returns, tabs in Word for Windows (TOOLS / OPTIONS / VIEW / NONPRINTING CHARACTERS)
  Many people like to be able to SEE the non-printing codes within a WORD document, such as spaces, tabs and carriage returns. To turn this option on in Word for Windows, select the TOOLS pull down menu and choose OPTIONS. The first options configuration screen is for VIEW, which allows different kinds of non-printing characters to be designated for display. Once these options have been saved, your view should default to that whenever you use Word for Windows.

• 4) Selecting the ENTIRE document (EDIT / SELECT ALL) If you wish to select and ENTIRE document in Word for Windows (e.g., to change the font), choose the EDIT pullown menu and the SELECT ALL option. (This can also be invoked by the key combination CRTL-A.)
