Web Access To CD-ROM LAN Databases

Databases Available For Testing On SWIFT

In order to test your database(s) thoroughly when launched via the Web, please try everything you can think of, especially printing and other functionality that goes beyond simple search and retrieval. If you find an anomaly, please make sure to compare the database's behavior on a CD-ROM LAN workstation to help determine where the problem lies. If you do discover problems or issues that seem to relate to Web access, please send email to cdroms@libraries.cul.columbia.edu.

Once you get a clean bill of health on a database, please send email to cul-ner@columbia.edu; the New CD-ROM LAN Database Checklist for the Library Systems Office will then be followed, including enabling the "Connect via WWW" button on the RTI Connect Screen.

Databases In Full Production On LibraryWeb

What Does "Full Production" Mean?

In this context, "full production" means these databases can be accessed via the "Connect via WWW" button on the LibraryWeb Reference Tools & Indexes (RTI) Connect Screen when connected to the Web on Library Netstations.

These databases cannot be accessed via the "Connect via WWW" button on the LibraryWeb Reference Tools & Indexes (RTI) Connect Screen when connected to the Web on a Mosis, TSW, or RWS workstation unless the workstation has been specially authorized for this type of access. Also, these databases cannot be accessed from a CNet terminal or any other machine that is not connected to our own Novell LAN.

Here is a summary of workstation access to CD-ROM LAN databases via the Web:

TEST DATABASES ON MOSIS, TSW, RWS, LIBRARY NETSTATIONS
Access is available by connecting to the Test Page For Web Access to CD-ROM LAN Databases or from the Networked Electronic Resources Test Services page.

PRODUCTION DATABASES ON LIBRARY NETSTATIONS
After a database is put into full production it can be accessed the same way in which test databases are accessed. In addition, it can be accessed via the "Connect via WWW" button on the LibraryWeb Reference Tools & Indexes (RTI) Connect Screen.

PRODUCTION DATABASES ON MOSIS, TSW, RWS
After a database is put into full production it can be accessed the same way in which test databases are accessed. A database in full production cannot be accessed via the "Connect via WWW" button on a Mosis, TSW, or RWS workstation unless the workstation has been specially authorized for this type of access.   Default Explain Screen

OTHER PLATFORMS
None of these databases can be accessed from a CNet terminal or any other machine that is not connected to our own Novell LAN.   Default Explain Screen
