(Not paid by CU and not in CU port groups) |
All CUL accounts EXCEPT those for Avery Index Production and those bundled with subscriptions (see #3 below), are authorized to use EITHER the Dedicated IP port group OR the Internet Host port group. In either case, sessions compete with the total number of simultaneous sessions purchased for that port group. In no case would accounts connected to the Dedicated IP host incur hourly charges.
The Avery ports are currently segregated from the other CU Dedicated IP ports, so that there is no contention between the users and the respective costs can be tracked.
NB: TC is piggybacking on Columbia's $550/month Network Link Fee in order to purchase a separate group of 5 Dedicated IP sessions.
Columbia's subscription agreements for the various Citadel databases includes a base level of 5 "free" simultaneous sessions. This is also true of the two accounts for RLIN searching provided to Columbia as part of our overall RLG subscription.
Note that these subscription accounts are not limited to any particular set number of RLG "ports"; the number of allowed sessions is entirely controlled at the account level. Users of one Citadel database do not compete for access with those using a different Citadel database.
Note also that these accounts make use of standard RLG internet routing, not "Dedicated IP" access. The gold.rlg.org hostname/route is not available for these accounts as of 4/98, although RLG is discussing providing this faster access at some point.
4/22/98: RLG changed the configuration of the Avery Access account such that the 5 free simultaneous sessions are handled the same as other Citadel subscription accounts, and no longer routed through our fixed number of Internet Host Ports.
