To be eligible for such service, the Pages must meet certain requirements - to be fluent in French and to speak at least one other foreign language. They must also be highly diligent, tactful, serene, mature, impeccably polite, respectful, obliging, prompt, and orderly in executing their duties. But the Pages may not be officious or bothersome, and must remain clear headed in any crisis" |

It was the only place big enough to accommodate the huge amount of people expected. By the time the food arrived, a rumor had spread that there was not enough for everyone and the crowd rushed forward...From Nicholas II's diary (30 May) - Up until now, thank God, everything went perfectly, but today a great sin has taken place. The crowd spending the night on Khodynka Field, in anticipation of the distribution of the food and mugs, broke through the barrier and there was a terrible crush, during which 1,300 people were trampled… |
