NAME HEADINGS ON PRELIMINARY AND TRACKING RECORDS

Authority Procedures

  1. Search the author's name (personal, corporate, conference) in CLIO using the "fi ja" command.

  2. If the search results in no hits, re-search with "fi jx" or "fi jsl".

  3. If the name has been used in CLIO, use the CLIO form exactly as you find it using a 1xx field or a 7xx field as appropriate.

  4. If more than one form is found, and it is not obvious which form matches, prefer the form found in the following order:

    1. latest authority record ("established heading" appears below the name

Go to Name Authority Record Example

    2. latest record with cataloged copies (status "h" on copy holdings)

    3. latest BIB record processed by LTI (019=AUTH)

  5. If you do not find the name in CLIO or if search results in a long list containing many authors, enter the name into the bibliographic record as found on the title page, but last name first, followed by a comma and first name.
