PROCESSING RIDERS

Forms and Riders

Riders with text must travel between BCD and departmental libraries. These riders contain important processing and routing instructions.

TEXTUAL RIDERS
RIDERS IN ITEM MEANING DEPT. PROCEDURE IMAGE
Attention Light blue rider indicating that there are additional instructions for departmental or cataloging staff in the OPR, e.g., notify patron. "Look in OPR" will be checked.

Binding Slip Binding slips may include processing instructions.

"BRF" Backlog Retrieval Form (Avery) White with green top. Also called D-56 form. Used to retrieve items from the Avery backlog. TNIS also inserts thin red and blue riders. Paperbacks are routinely bound. For Precat materials, use the online form

Brittle Monograph Worksheet White form indicating a monograph in need of preservation. (D115m)

ILL A light blue rider indicating that item is being returned by ILL to the owning library.

Mixed Media Rider White rider indicating that item consists of more than one material type, e.g., book with CD-ROM or software with user's guide.

New Serial or Title Change White rider which has a box checked indicating that issue is a new serial or first issue of a title change.

Reader request. C33 Yellow rider used by patrons to request material from "in process." BCD also inserts a thin green rider. For processing information, Go to C33 procedures

TNIS Problem Rider. "T1" Blue rider used to route questions & problems between acquisitions & cataloging depts. or to selectors

TNIS In-Process Rider. "T2" White rider containing routing and processing information including temporary locations in "TEMP" or "Subloc"

COLORED RIDERS

Wide SPRING GREEN Reserve item (highest priority) Rider keeps items out of Precat and keeps paperbacks from being bound before being sent to departmental libraries. Also used ti identify material for a satellite library.

Narrow DARK GREEN Used with C33 or Attention rider. Rider keeps item out of Precat.

RED Processed as a priority 1 item. Rider keeps item out of Precat. Paperbacks are routinely bound before being sent to departmental libraries

"CONTIN" LIGHT GREEN Volume in a new monographic continuation. Routes item for priority cataloging and keeps item out of Precat.

BLUE Processed as priority 2 item Paperbacks are routinely bound before being sent to departmental libraries

ORANGE Processed for Offsite if copy available. Processed for Precat if standard copy is not available.
