ROUTING MATERIAL USING TRACKING NOTATION CODES
Holdings Procedures
BACKGROUND
Use this procedure to route material to another processing or acquisitions
department, or within a department.
PROCEDURES
- Item is being rerouted to another department or is being returned to
an acquisitions department
- Overtype existing tracking notation code with the code for the
receiving department.
Go to List of Tracking Notation Codes
- Do not routinely change the priority unless asked to do so by a
selector.
- Do not add initials of any staff in the receiving department.
Examples:
MPS discovers that an item needs original cataloging
NOTES MPS1 -----> OSMC1
MPS discovers that an item is a duplicate.
NOTES MPS2 -----> MAS2
- Item is being held for a period of time within a processing
department--Add the initials of the person holding the book after the
tracking notation code and a brief description of the problem.

NOTES MPS3/imb - problem
