DEFINITIONS OF CATALOGING PRIORITY


BACKGROUND

Cataloging priority plays an important role in determining the routing and physical processing of materials. This document summarizes the ranking and meanings of cataloging priorities and the colored riders used to identify them.

Wide GREEN rider Item for reserves
Highest
Slim GREEN rider Item with reader request (C33)
Second highest
RED rider Priority 1 item, also called "red rush"
Third highest
RED and BLUE riders together Item with backlog retrieval (BRF) form
Fourth highest
BLUE rider Priority 2 item, also called "blue rush"
Fifth highest
No colored rider Priority 3 item
Sixth highest
