Hardbound volumes with certain types of loose accompanying material are normally treated by the CUL Conservation Lab. For example, the lab tips in errata slips. For certain other types of loose accompanying material (e.g. maps), the Lab prepares pock ets. The most efficient method of communicating to the Conservation Lab information concerning loose accompanying material is by means of a binding slip inserted by the cataloger.
Note: paperback volumes are routinely prepared for binding by BSP or other library staff. Instructions for loose material are provided as part of this binding preparation, and it is therefore not necessary for a cataloger to include binding slips with paperbacks.
