Materials Excluded From Precat Processing

1. LOCATIONS
   1. AVE, AVR, BAR, EWNG, FAX, FAR, GAX, EGYP, LSP, MANC, MIL, MRR, PAP, RBX, RBY, REF

   2. Locations for non-book material (e.g. MSC, MSR)

   3. Sublocations: materials with sublocations marked on the T2 rider, e.g., mil,stdy. (Add blue P2 rider and route to OSMC2)

      Materials for exception locations will be backlogged in OSMC according to OSMC procedures.

2. LANGUAGES--Armenian, Kurdish, Persian and Soviet Nationalities languages.

3. OLDER IMPRINT DATES--Imprint dates ten or more years old. Route to OSMC2 or OSMC3 as appropriate.

   Note: Materials in the following languages should not be routed to OSMC, but should be processed for Precat regardless of imprint date:

   • Asian languages
   • Finnish
   • Swedish
   • Danish
   • Norwegian
   • Turkish
   • Hebrew
   • Arabic
   • Hungarian

4. CATEGORIES OF MATERIAL

   NOTE: ASX materials which fall into categories excluded from the Open Backlog will be backlogged in ASX. Copy cataloging units in central processing will handle/route materials in these categories as indicated below.

   1. Attention riders: books which include Attention riders (Route to OSMC2 or OSMC3)

   2. Brittle materials Go to brittle materials procedures

   3. Incomplete multi-volume sets (Add blue P2 rider and route to OSMC2 with a note in the CLNF indicating which volumes were re-routed.)

   4. Belles lettres: works of poetry, fiction or drama.

   5. Miniature books: height measurement of 9 cm. or less (Route to OSMC1)

   6. Mixed media: books with accompanying or pocketed material in a non-book format. (Route to OSMC1 or OSMC2. NB: priority 3 mixed media should be upgraded to priority 2)

      Note: Books with maps or microfiche in pockets can be processed for the open backlog.

   7. Non-book formats: computer discs, microforms, scores, sound recordings, video cassettes, etc. (backlogged in OSMC)

   8. Oversize books: height or depth measurement of 38 cm. or greater. (Route to OSMC2 or OSMC3)

   9. Serials (backlogged in SPS)

   10. Serial Analytics (route to MPS)
