When a book is a photocopy of the original, separate records are needed, even if the original and the photocopy are on the same card.

1. Book Is In Hand
   1. The book is a commercial photocopy, usually produced by UMI and card has a full photocopy manufacturing note, or it does not mention the photocopy at all.

      Use/create a record for the original but do not create a copy statement for the photocopy. Use an existing online record and process as variant edition. If no online record is found, transcribe card, treating it as Columbia original cataloging. Code record as shown in the chart below:

2. Book Not In hand
   1. There is only one department on the card and there is a full photocopy manufacturing note.
