Cataloging Practices Manual [CPM-6854]

Bib Records for Booknotes Videos

  1. Search the Booknotes website to determine the broadcast date of the video in hand. From the homepage, click "Online Archives" under "Booknotes Resources." From the drop down menu select the month that corresponds to the taping date on the back of the video container, or the month following, and click "O.K." to find the air date. Go to Booknotes website.

  2. In OCLC display the record for the book with the same title (select the LC record if there is one).

  3. In CLIO display the preliminary bib record for the video in hand. Overlay the bib record with the Booknotes template record, AKT4349. Re-display the record by its CLIO ID (you will not be able to retrieve it by title at this point). The template indicates the fields that must be adjusted by means of capital letters or question marks.

  4. Editing the bib record

    1. Fixed fields

      1. DT/1

        Input the year of broadcast.

      2. R/Time

Input the running time from the back of the cassette container, e.g. 058.

    2. Variable fields

      1. 043

If the book record in OCLC has an 043 field, copy the geographic area code(s) from that record and paste it into the CLIO record. If there is no 043 in the book record in OCLC, delete the 043 from the CLIO record.

      2. 245

Input the title from the label on the cassette itself, using $b for any other title information. If there is no subtitle, delete the $b from the CLIO record.

      3. 246

If the book record in OCLC has any 246's for variant titles, copy and paste them into the CLIO record.

      4. 260

Input the year of broadcast inside the brackets, e.g. [1999]

      5. 300

Input running time without a leading zero in the 300 field.

      6. 500

      8. 6XX

        • Copy the author's name from the 100 field in the OCLC record for the book and paste it into the first 600 (before the subdivision "Interviews").

      9. 700
