Microforms Cataloging Manual


Cataloging Guides as Accompanying Material


  1. Bibliographic record

    1. Note the presence of the guide in the cataloging description for the microform either by adding it to the general description:

      20 microfilm reels ; $c 35 mm. + $e 1 guide (12 p. ; 21 cm.)

      and/or describing it in a general note:

      Accompanied by a printed reel guide, compiled by Blair D. Hydrick.

      Accompanied by: Guide to the microfilm edition of TCA / Jeffrey Andrews. 1982 (25 p. ; 22 cm.)

    2. Supply an added entry for the title of the guide (if distinct from the microform it accompanies) and/or its editor, compiler, etc. as appropriate under AACR2.

  2. Holdings Record

    1. Follow the procedures for mixed media monographs, with the additional note below:

    2. If the microform and guide are shelved in different departments or different locations, add a local note (866 $z) giving the location (and if different, the call number) of the guide.

  3. Item records

    Use item type microform.

    Code Chron field with the term Guide for the accompanying volume.

  4. Charging & Routing

    Barcode all guides, charge to labeling or binding pseudopatron as appropriate, and route to BSP. Route the microform separately to its destination. If the set is fiche, on the printout of the MFHD, note that the guide has been sent to BSP.
